About Tarashankari Peeth
Tarashankari Peeth is a Hindu temple nestled in the quietness of Belgachia railway colony, Kolkata, West Bengal. Dedicated to three presiding deities MaaTarashankari, Lord Yasho Madhava and Baba Mahakal Bhairav, the temple is a sanctuary of faith, true spiritual fervour and interconnectedness with the source.
With very humble beginnings by Yogiraj Paresh Chandra Roy Moulik in 1954, the temple was established in a tin shed for offering regular seva to Maa Kali. That year marked the beginning of a larger plan, where Tarashankari Peeth was pledged. The following year, in 1955, a concrete enlcosed temple was constructed, which emerged to its present finesse with years of Sadhana of Yagiraj, Yogmata and dedication of countless devotees.
Tarashankari Peeth walks the ritualistic journey of the presiding deities with daily offerings and dedicated ceremonies for special occasions.
Our aim is to spearhead spiritual enlightenment among devotees and pivot wider spiritual consciousness – from rituals to true spiritual cognizance.
The Vedas talk about non-dualism, divine unity. This believes that there is one ultimate force, called ‘Brahman’, that is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. The presence of Three Deities in One Temple reflects this idea of Oneness. Our temple is home to a rare and revered Mahakal Bhairav, a divine presence found mainly in Kathmandu, Nepal and within our sacred walls.
Our Yagna Kund fire, originating from the holy Manikarnika Ghat of Varanasi, has been continuously burning since the 1960s symbolizing eternal devotion and purity.
